ETEBA to Conduct Workshop on Technetium-99 Issues at the East Tennessee Technology Park

OAK RIDGE— On March 30, 2010, the Energy, Technology, and Environmental Business Association (ETEBA) will conduct a workshop focused on Technetium 99 (Tc-99), a radioactive element that in 2009 was detected in the east wing of the K-25 building at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP).  The goal of the workshop is to help the business community understand the full extent of the Tc-99 issue at ETTP and to discuss cleanup strategies to best address the problem.

The workshop will be held at the American Museum of Science and Energy on March 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The workshop is open to the public.  Because space is limited, we will be accepting registrations on a first come first served basis.

The day’s proceedings will consist of presentations by DOE and subject matter experts on topics such as: (1) baseline approach; (2) characterization and sampling of Tc-99; (3) Tc-99 behavior and source at K-25; (4) Waste Acceptance Criteria confirmation; (5) minimizing the spread of Tc-99; and (6) ensuring safe working conditions.

We anticipate interactive panel discussions and ample time for audience members to share their thoughts and ask questions of the various presenters.  Additional information on this workshop will be forthcoming, including a draft agenda, registration information, and background materials.

About ETEBA:

The Energy, Technology & Environmental Business Association (ETEBA) is a national non-profit trade association representing over 200 businesses that provide environmental, energy, and engineering services to federal agencies and commercial clients. ETEBA has chapters in Tennessee and New Mexico and an office in Washington, DC.
